That thing that drives us to support one another, to reach for higher purpose, to give and receive, to collaborate and communicate and connect. There are so many reasons to volunteer at the Saint Vincent de Paul thrift store in Sarasota.
In the words of Saint Vincent de Paul himself, “You can give me no greater consolation nor render greater service to your neighbor than to place yourself in a condition to serve him for a long time”.
By volunteering, we serve others. We love others. Just as we ourselves are loved.
Giving of ourselves, through time and connection and labor, is a means by which we can answer the call to love our neighbors. To see and serve Christ in others.
But volunteering isn’t always a strictly selfless act. While the ultimate purpose is to serve, there is much to be gained personally from the experience as well.
Community.
Connections.
Purpose.
Fun.
Exercise.
Experience.
